Blog post T3W1

This week has been so chaotic, there's been lots of changes in our learning this term. This includes weekly roundups, ninja maths, learning through play, priorities,  fluency tutor and more. I’ve enjoyed the new changes that have been made. I am part of the group for this week’s weekly round up. To make our movie/video we are using iMovie. The video can only be 2 minutes maximum, the video has to be about this weeks learning in MLH! We’ve also started using  ninja maths, It's just three different columns of maths questions.

I think of it like this: easy, medium & hard. LTP = Learning through play. It’s the first year that Moana Syndicate will be doing LTP. There’s different options to choose from. The options are : Lego, Makey Makey, Junkey Monkey & Cardboard Nation. Our priorities haven’t changed too much from last term, but it's just the check in that's changed. Fluency Tutor is a website that helps young and old students to improve in the fluency when it comes to reading. Everyone's excited to see what this term will bring to us, don’t forget to give me some feedback about my writing in the comments.

Bubble Wednesday!

Last week Wednesday Koka Jo & Koka Holly came into MLH ( Moana Learning Hub ) and had a korero with us. They told us about what we would be learning about for the next 2 weeks. The theme was bubbles! I was a bit confused at first but then realised what they had meant. The theme
( BUBBLES ) is actually talking about Covid19.

We had to stay in our own bubbles during lockdown, so basically that is what we were learning about for the next couple of weeks! There were a few activities we had been given. First up was Bubble art. Just to mention we were working collaboratively in teams, also known as buzz groups. Secondly we made bubble mixtures, we had a few days to sort out our recipes and send them to the teachers so they could buy the ingredients. It was finally the day we had all been waiting for BUBBLE MIXING DAY!!!!!!

We made our mixtures and let them set during morning tea, after morning tea the fun started to happen. Here is the slides that our buzz group had made. ( this was one of our activities. )

Covid - 19 Learning From Home
On Wednesday 25th of March lockdown began. Wow! Nearly 2
months of being locked inside a house with 6 loud people! Learning
from home was quite good from my side of things. Not just because
I got to sleep in for an extra hour, but also because I got to control
where I could sit, eat etc. I would much rather be at school. It's
better when you can see people other than your family. How was
your lockdown learning experience?

Our teachers gave us priorities to do during lockdown. We also
started using a new website called steps spelling. We used steps
everyday for 20- 30 minutes. Every week was a different theme. We had
themes like : Anzac, Animal Kingdom, World Famous, Story Time
and Our World.  Check out one of my favourite tasks from Anzac weeks!

My favourite priorities during lockdown would be Anzac
silhouette art, Anzac biscuit box, storytime book cover, six sentence story
and so much more!

Here is what the check in
looked like at the end of
week!

Overall lockdown was quite good! Thanks for reading!

                                                                                First Weeks Back!

We've made an amazing start to this year. This last few weeks have been crazy! We've been doing Quickwrites, swimming, buzz groups, art pieces, road patrol refresher, weetbix tryathlon, we learnt all about Waitangi Day, We all got our chromebook licenses. We've learnt how to take care of our chromebooks (Kawa of Care) and so much more.

In the first week we played People Bingo and we learnt more about each other. I think we're all getting the hang of how to work around here.

The year 6's all get a opportunity to go surfing and learn more about it. And our school is very lucky because we are right opposite the beach. We also had Sonia Keepa come and tell the year 6's about ocean safety.

I think 2020 will be a great year filled with great opportunities and so much more.
